Teak Care & Maintenance

Teak Care & Maintenance

Posted by Kulala Living on

Teak furniture brings enduring strength and natural beauty to a home. With thoughtful care, it will continue to soften and mature gracefully over time.

Climate Considerations: Avoid positioning teak furniture directly beside heating sources or air conditioners. Sudden shifts in temperature and humidity may cause the timber to expand or contract, which can lead to movement within the wood.

Sunlight Exposure: Teak naturally evolves in colour. To maintain more even ageing, minimise prolonged direct sunlight and rotate tabletop objects occasionally to prevent uneven fading.

Stain Prevention: Wipe spills promptly using a soft damp cloth and mild soap. Quick attention helps prevent staining and protects the timber’s surface.

Cleaning: Clean gently in the direction of the grain to preserve the timber’s natural character. Use mild, wood suitable products and avoid abrasive cloths or harsh tools that may mark the surface.

Chemical Care: Avoid cleaners containing bleach, ammonia or strong acids. Gentle, natural cleaning solutions will help maintain the integrity and depth of the timber.

Handling: Lift rather than drag furniture when repositioning to protect both the piece and your flooring. Furniture pads or felt protectors beneath legs can help minimise friction.

Heat and Moisture Protection: Use coasters, placemats and trivets beneath hot or cold items to prevent moisture rings or heat marks from forming on the surface.

With consistent, considered care, teak will continue to age beautifully, developing character while maintaining its structural strength.
