Some homes evolve slowly.

Others are reimagined with intention.

In this Sunshine Coast-based living and dining renovation, Loni Parker, founder and editor of Adore Home Magazine, has created a space that feels both considered and effortless, grounded in warmth, texture, and a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility.

This was not a full renovation. It was a cosmetic transformation, approached with clarity, restraint, and a strong vision. With a moderate budget guiding decisions, the focus remained on materiality, light, and atmosphere.

The result is a home that feels calm, layered, and deeply lived in.

Designing with What Already Exists

Rather than stripping the space back entirely, Loni chose to work with its existing character. The exposed ceiling beams and fireplace became anchors for the design direction, while elements that felt visually heavy or dated were thoughtfully refined.

A fresh palette of warm neutrals softened the room, with walls and ceilings painted in tonal beige hues to create cohesion and depth. The transformation is immediate, yet subtle.

Large natural fibre rugs were introduced to ground the space and soften the tiled flooring, allowing texture to take precedence over pattern.

Layering Texture Through Furniture

The living space is anchored by relaxed, tactile materials that prioritise comfort without compromising on form.

The Tendi Timber Armchair from KULALA Living introduces a sculptural yet understated presence. Crafted from solid timber with woven rope detailing along the arms, it brings a sense of craftsmanship and quiet texture to the room.

Positioned beside the fireplace, paired with the plush Cairo Linen Cushion, it becomes a natural place to pause. A chair that invites slower moments.

Soft linen textiles further enhance the layered feel of the space. The Freya Rectangular Cushion and Cairo Knotted Fringe Linen Throw, both from KULALA Living, introduce subtle variation through weave and fringe detailing.

These pieces are not decorative additions. They are integral to how the space feels.

Lighting That Shapes the Mood

Lighting plays a defining role in the transformation. Sculptural wall lights introduce a soft, ambient glow, while a natural pendant light anchors the ceiling and brings warmth to the room.

The shift from functional lighting to considered lighting changes how the space is experienced, particularly in the evening.

It is no longer just a room. It is a place to settle into.

A Dining Space Defined by Form and Material

The dining area continues the same material narrative. A substantial round timber table is paired with woven seating, creating balance between structure and softness. A large natural fibre rug grounds the setting, while sheer curtains filter light and introduce movement. Each element has been selected for its ability to contribute to the overall atmosphere rather than stand alone.

Creating Warmth Within Constraint

This project is a study in thoughtful restraint. Working within a moderate budget, Loni has demonstrated that meaningful transformation does not require structural change. Instead, it comes from clarity of vision and careful material selection. Paint, lighting, textiles, and furniture work together to shift the home's feeling entirely. The result is a space that feels cohesive, warm, and enduring.

The KULALA Living Perspective

At KULALA Living, we believe in creating pieces that support the way a home feels. In this space, the Tendi Timber Armchair and linen cushion collection do exactly that. They introduce texture, soften architectural lines, and bring a sense of calm to everyday living.

Designed for relaxed, Mediterranean-inspired interiors and ideal for Australian homes, these pieces are intended to be lived with over time. Explore the Tendi Timber Armchair and our linen cushion collection to bring a similar sense of warmth and materiality into your own space.

Spaces We Love

This home is a reflection of what happens when design is approached with intention rather than excess. It is layered, calm, and quietly confident. A space that feels as good as it looks.
