Handwoven from natural Ilala palm, the Fair Trade Bulawayo Garlic Gourd brings sculptural form and organic texture to bedrooms, living spaces and entryways. Its rounded silhouette can be displayed as a standalone decorative piece or grouped with other woven forms in relaxed, coastal and globally inspired interiors.

Each gourd is woven by Ndebele women using techniques passed down through generations. Basket weaving is both a shared cultural practice and an important source of income, supporting greater independence for women in rural African communities.

Made entirely by hand without templates or moulds, every piece carries individual variations in shape, colour and pattern.

MATERIALS

Handwoven Ilala palm.

Please note: Due to the handcrafted nature of these gourds, slight variations in size, colour and pattern may occur. These characteristics form part of the individuality of each piece.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth or soft brush. Keep indoors in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from moisture and prolonged direct sunlight. Do not soak or use chemical cleaners.

Natural fibres are sensitive to sunlight, moisture, and humidity, which can cause fading, brittleness, or mould. Keep items indoors or in covered spaces, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.

Clean gently with a soft brush or cloth, and always dry thoroughly after wiping.

Avoid harsh cleaners, soaking, or dragging, which can damage the weave.
